Mentoring for Highly Sensitive People & Empaths
Being highly sensitive can be an extraordinary gift and at times feel completely overwhelming.
Imagine if every time you went out of the house your senses were magnified ten-fold. The blast of a car horn for you might feel like it was directly next to your eardrum. Going to the grocery store could feel like a tremendous ordeal with the numerous people, lights, sounds, and colors invading your awareness. Just trying to get through the day could feel exhausting and sometimes it might feel like you can’t do the things that “normal” people do, without paying for it physically, mentally, and emotionally.
In adults, being highly sensitive or empathic is undoubtedly an incredible challenge. With over-diagnoses in the 21st century and a lack of education and resources in traditional medical care and education, highly sensitive individuals can feel invisible, alone, misunderstood and largely unsupported.
In children and teens, unrecognized sensitivities can often wreak havoc and create unbelievable angst for these individuals as they continue to feel overwhelmed and confused by their experience. For instance, very young highly sensitive children might not be able handle certain textures of clothing or other physical materials. They can be picky eaters and struggle to find foods they enjoy eating. They can be extremely physically sensitive, easily get sick, or have numerous allergies and food sensitivities. They might have more tantrums or meltdowns when spending time in environments with more sensory stimuli. Their tolerance for loud noises or lights might be very low or non-existent.
A child on the highly sensitive spectrum might also struggle to connect socially with their peers, have trouble listening or following instructions at home and in the classroom, and struggle to communicate and express their feelings.
These children might also frequently have night terrors, have difficulty sleeping or report visitations from ghosts or monsters. They might have very vivid imaginations and have a remarkable wisdom or intelligence for their age.
In older highly sensitive children and teens, many of these issues still continue to be prevalent. Older children, teens, and adults on the highly sensitive spectrum also may struggle with social issues, difficulty maintaining focus, learning disabilities, physical sensitivities and chronic health issues, and emotional challenges. Unfortunately, highly sensitives and empaths can often turn to substances or utilize other addictive behaviors to manage and turn down the volume of their sensory world.
When a highly sensitive child or teen doesn’t get the support they need, these issues carry into adulthood.
Imagine if you lived your life in a constant state of activation never knowing if it was safe enough to rest or put down your guard. This is often how an individual on the highly sensitive spectrum feels. Their nervous system is in a constant state of activation because they can’t regulate the overwhelm that they are experiencing from their environment. I provide my clients with tools that work directly with the brain and support re-patterning of the nervous system.
With dedication and support, I have witnessed my clients’ incredible capacity to transform the overwhelm in their system into the gifts that they are.
As a coach and mentor I strive to support each of my clients in feeling more emotionally regulated, empowered, and physically safe to be their authentic selves’.
If this sounds like you, your child or teen, you’ve arrived at the right place.
With overwhelm as a baseline, it can be extremely challenging to recognize that sensitivities have the capacity to be incredible gifts. You are not alone in this. You deserve to experience your life in a way that doesn’t constantly overwhelm you.
A wise mentor of mine once posed the question, “What if all symptoms are a result of a dysregulated nervous system?” What if it was that simple? What if suddenly the specific tools, resources, and support needed to end the cycle of overwhelm and confusion were finally available?

“I never had much luck with mainstream medicine as the doctors didn’t take into consideration who I really am, a highly sensitive being. I needed someone that I could trust, someone with a true sense of integrity to help me navigate my own consciousness.
So, I reached out to Sandie to ask for her guidance. At that point, I felt incredibly fragile and very vulnerable. Sandie was supportive and sincere in offering her services. We started our work together, and I immediately felt hope where there was once despair.
As we spent time together, she taught me how to reconnect with myself. As I connected with myself, all that no longer served me came up to the surface to be healed and released. It was evident that I have experienced much trauma and abuse in my life. A lot of which, I denied or pretended like it didn’t bother me. I have a warrior spirit and thought that letting those events hold any power over me was a sign of weakness. I was wrong. By not acknowledging these events and the pain they caused, I was suffering. The trauma not only had power over me, it was now ruining my life. The only way to regain my power and inner peace was to face it. To acknowledge it, feel it, and let it go…gently. Sandie’s methods taught me how to welcome all that I am. All of the pieces with radical acceptance.
As our work together has continued, my life has changed drastically. All that overwhelmed me started to fall away. Sometimes change is uncomfortable and intense. However, in working with Sandie, I felt grounded and supported even though the intensity. Sandie helped me rediscover my own capacity for healing and taught me to use the tools that I have been given to cultivate my awakening. Reminding me that this life is my experience and I have the power to create and shape it as I see fit. She helped me overcome judgements and conditions placed on me by society and self, creating the space for my true essence to blossom.
